When I was a little girl, I have found that Mathematics (Maths) is a killer subject. The subject which is created by crazy mathematicians with uncombed hair, who doesn't have a life and let alone them answer the probability of "what-if" questions and die alone in their huts. But ancient historians never prove them die alone. In fact, they are well-known and made millions out of it which tend to be money, of course.. and thank you for that facts. The ancient babylonians are good at maths, Sir Isaac Newton is good at maths, Archimedes and Einstein? Wow.
These people's desire to know and understand deeply for a certain matter is a priceless innovative attitude which I count mostly are what Malaysians lack of. Malu bertanya sesat jalan. Yes, we Malaysians are very afraid to have their face-drop just to save their ego. And I admit by saying this, this is why I have never love mathematics when I was a little girl because I have that fear of people saying, "Girl, you are unfortunately lack of logic thinking." or in Malay words, "Sayang, kamu tak berapa pandai dalam ilmu logik." If people like that say to my face of course I couldn't sleep well for a week. Nangis sekarang. Wuwuw.
They say the first step is the hardest and that is true. Getting into kindergarten for the first day is the hardest. I am so shy I could die. Ahah. Getting into primary school was okay because I have siblings going to school with me. High school? I think technical school proved that staying far from your family makes you become more independent. *Tipula siapa kata masuk sekolah asrama tak nangis, booo.* Enrolling in matric and university is tough though but it is such an enjoyable experiences and memories once you get to share beautiful moment with your best friends.
Coming back to the maths subject in which I came to realize when I was in university but tend to forget it until now... Learning maths is fun. I tend to forget this because I never apply these things in uni and in real life. How can this f(x)=y translated into real life? But when I started to work, things changed. I figured that of course the function of f(x)=y never came into the real life because microsoft excel have formulas working faster than my left brain hehe.
It all started with an interest on the things you love most.
For example, if you love photography, you will still have to do very simple maths by calculating the ISO and aperture whereby high ISO will create a lot of noise in your picture although it lets you shoot at a very low flash composure or lights off. Maths application? Check!
Or if you love to design clothes, mengukur baju di badan sendiri still memerlukan 'keterroran' to take measurements on various bodies, shapes and sizes. Maths application? Check!
... and if you love to cook, harus lah untuk mengambil measurement tepung, gula and powder kan to cook a simple cupcake! Maths application? Check, check!
I couldn't argue that we used maths everyday! But I really hate them until I find a reason to love it, things will change.
You see, in life.. it is not about the things you hate will stay as it is forever. Maybe someday you will love them.
Who knows?
;-)
